The endless pursuit to simplify man's life will soon be its own downfall. Let us examine this very simple yet very important human basic need- food consumption and it's impact to our daily lives. The types of foods available today, how they are prepared, how they are packaged are geared towards making them more suitable to our lifestyle, the advent of processed foods, the innovations in the area of food technology that promises delivery of better food as well as better farming methods all contribute to this revolution, or so it seems.

Almost everyday you will hear someone complaining about food allergies, you open the television and you will likely see a feature discussing how such processing methods affect someone's health or someone's behavior, or that obesity is becoming a bigger threat along with the complications that result from it. Food is a human basic need, it has been since the time when our predecessors lived in caves. Food allergies can manifest in a lot of ways, from the life threatening Anaphylactic reactions to the slow and debilitating Rheumatoid Arthritis. Allergies occur because the body identified a component of an ingested food as foreign and created antibodies against it so that each time the body is exposed to it, it will react protectively hence the inflammatory response. Take for instance the symptoms of arthritis, the joint pain and stiffness , are thought to be triggered by certain types foods. By identifying them and eliminating them from their diet, many sufferers felt an overall reduction of the severity of the symptoms. While the medical community generally shuns from the food allergy theory as being one of the causes of arthritis and its flare ups, more and more studies are beginning to show the link between the two. This lead to a idea that we should examine the stone age diet more closely and imbibe it, primitive humans eat mainly lean meats (beef, pork, lamb), vegetables, fruits and nuts and fish. These are the food that are gathered by using their basic hunting and foraging skills. While our lifestyle today is so much different from theirs, our DNA make up is still the same, our bodies are meant for these kind of food not grains, bread or dairy which may contain additives that cause more harm than good to our bodies in the long term.

By adapting a diet regimen similar to our stone age predecessors, it is believed that taking a step back could well maybe the key to a healthier lifestyle where the incidence of food allergies is reduced and diseases such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Celiac disease, hypothyroidism are adequately managed and to some extent prevented. We are fortunate today that we have many choices and there are a lot of information available to us so that we can make an informed choice. I think living healthier is living better quality lives.
